Construction Skills Certification Scheme- CSCS cards smart check app

CSCS cards provide proof that the cardholder has adequate qualifications in the construction industry. These cards improve health and safety standards in the sector.

 

Construction Skills Certification Scheme launched in April 2022 the smart check app to enable employers to quickly validate the cardholder’s qualifications. The mobile app scans the QR code from the CSCS card and shows the following details:

- Photo id

- Cardholder name

- Cardholder job title

- Cardholder qualifications

- Card expiry date

 

There are various cards depending on the experience and type of work on the construction site. 

  • Labourer card (green) - apply if you are not skilled and carrying out labouring duties on site
  • Apprentice card (red) - free card for apprenticeships
  • Experienced technical, supervisor or manager card (red)- available specifically to experienced Supervisors, Managers and Technical workers
  • Experienced worker card (red)- available to experienced workers registered to complete further qualifications like Construction Related NVQ or SVQ Level 2 or higher.
  • Trainee card (red) - available for trainees registered to complete adequate qualifications.
  • Industry Placement card (red) - for those on placements and completing a training programme
  • Blue skilled worker card (blue) - for those who have achieved a construction-related NVQ or SVQ level 2 or an apprenticeship
  • Gold skilled worker (gold) - available to those qualified in a construction-related NVQ or SVQ level 3, or to those who completed an approved indentured apprenticeship (e.g.with NJCBI, BATJIC etc.) or to those on an employer-sponsored apprenticeship which included the achievement of a City and Guilds of London Institute Advanced Craft Certificate.
  • Supervisory card (gold) - available to supervisors or technical occupations
  • Manager card (black) - available to managers and technical occupations
  • Academically Qualified Person card (silver) - for those who have degrees in construction
  • Professionally Qualified Person card (silver) - available to competence-assessed members of CSCS-approved professional bodies
  • Provisional card (red) - for workers on probationary periods for employers to assess their suitability

 

The application process for CSCS cards is straightforward and quick. 

It is available online at www.cscs.uk.com. All cards cost £36.00, and all CITB Health, Safety and Environment HS&E tests cost £22.50

Before you apply, you should have the following:

  • Electronic copy of your construction qualification or proof of registration to obtain such qualifications
  • The test ID number from the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test (HS&E), which can be found on the top of the pass certificate
  • Card to pay the fee

 

The CSCS card will be issued with the picture of the cardholder. The picture will be the same as the one taken for the HS&E test. If the applicant applies with the equivalent certification to the HS&E test, then the passport photo will be required.

 

Employers can also apply on behalf of their employees and can make a bulk application. In order to do so, they will need to open an online Employer account at   www.cscsonline.uk.com.
