A double victory for IBB Polonia London

A double victory for IBB Polonia London

IBB Polonia London has made an excellent start to the season, especially at their home venue: Northolt School. Niski’s team played very well on Saturday, especially from the service line and in defence. The players were in total control in each set from start to finish giving Niski the chance to use all of the players with no interruption to the flow of the game. The game ended quickly 3:0

„It was a very unusual situation last weekend; having to play the same team on two consecutive days. We blocked very well on Saturday and defended faultlessly, dominating the visitors. The first set was over very quickly, and we brought on the subs who continued the damage and showed they could be counted on and will be important for the second half of the season” summed up Captain of IBB Polonia London Bartosz Kisielewicz.

There was little time for either team to breathe, because 24 hours later they were at it again, but this time in Essex. The University of Essex hosted the Londoners and the home team caused problems right from the start taking the first set 25-22. The second set was a total turnaround as Niski’s players remembered how they played the day before serving and blocking their way to a swift equalising set. The third set was anybody’s to win and the spectators enjoyed the roller coaster set with neither team really gaining an advantage. At 15-15 nobody was able to impose their superiority on the other team and the set dribbled to a conclusion with IBB Polonia London unable to finish two set points, and in the end Essex proved the winners. The fourth set was once again a total demolition with Polonia taking sustained control and not giving the home team a chance. The last set was a very emotional affair with both teams fighting hard for each point; right up to the end it wasn’t certain which team would be popping the champagne corks. However the deciding moment was clinched by the favourites IBB Polonia London who were ruthless at the very last moment and won the game 2-3.

„On Sunday, we didn’t start properly and let the opponents find some form.  We improved towards the end, but a little too late and we gave Essex too much chances to play. The second set was more the style of play we are used to and thanks to our strong serving we jumped ahead by a bit of a margin. The third set was a classic point for point game, and we have ourselves to blame for not finishing them off with a couple of hitting errors. The fourth set was a copy of the fourth: ferocious serving gave us a big lead and we headed into the fifth set with our tails up. The tie break was level pegging, but we were more mature at the end and we took an emotional game” concluded Kisielewicz.

Currently IBB Polonia London sits in second place in the Super League behind Durham Palatinates. Next weekend there are two away matches: on Saturday at University of Nottingham and on Sunday Sheffield Hallam. More information will appear on our social media.
